Today’s Daily Song of the Day: Neil Young & Devo – “Hey Hey, My My”

It occurred to me recently that we need some music to liven up things around here. With that in mind, here’s something new I want to start, and hope to keep up with this year. It’s a nifty little feature I’m calling…

“Today’s Daily Song of the Day”

So behold our inaugural cut below. You are probably familiar with the song, but this version is a little known gem of Neil Young playing it with Devo. Mark Mothersbaugh (billing himself as “Booji Boy” here) is the one singing and rocking the keys. As funny as these masks are, though, I actually think the intense faces ol’ Neil is making are twice as hilarious.

Though this video is from the 1982 “Human Highway” film, Devo were involved with the song in its early stages. Crazy Horse guitarist Frank Sampedro says it was a much mellower cut before they started jamming with these dudes. Devo members Mothersbaugh and Casale used to work for Rustoleum, which is where that whole “Rust Never Sleeps” business came from.
